The Carleton University Crash Dummy (CUCD) team will be performing a rear impact crash test on April 1, 2016 in co-ordination with Ottawa Police Service. Twenty fourth-year engineering students, along with professors in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Ottawa Police Det. Alain Boucher of the Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) and eight collision investigators will participate in the crash test simulation to help CIU investigators better understand collisions between cyclists and a vehicles. For the first time, the test will include a simulated rear-end collision to demonstrate possible crash dynamics during the normal flow of traffic.
